Congratulations to John Perkins! ~ Sept. 27, 05 - Pete Seavey did it again. All of our instructors are busy helping our students achieve their first major flight experience of making their first solo flight. The feeling of excitement is tried to be captured by the saying on their "T" shirts, but as they say, "Words can't describe how it felt!" John's first solo flight was in 93G which has a long reputation of bringing new students into the world of flying. Good Luck to John as he works towards his private pilot certificate.
Can't find your book mark to the Ossipee Aviation web site? No problem, just go to Google anytime and type what you're looking for. Google scans our site almost daily and captures your favorite information on the world wide web. Try it! Example: Melissa Aho just got her solo posted on this page. Go to Google and type,"Melissa Aho" and watch the results! Thanks for visiting Ossipee Valley Aviation.

Aviation Safety Seminar at Littlebrook Airport ~ Sept. 22, 05 - The September schedule is not over and it's not too late to grab a couple sessions. How about the one at Littlebrook Airport? Well here's your chance to hear Sigrid Baumann with here seminar titled, "How The Human Element Affects Flying". It's at "Hanger #3" at Littlebrook. And if you intend on flying over and a little concerned about night time darkness you don't have to worry, because Littlebrook now has landing lights. Five clicks and you're good to go. I personally haven't tried them out yet, but it's on my list of "Things To Do". Some more good news is that Littlebrook has a new owner, and..... He's expanding the airport development instead of tearing it down, like you hear so often at other airports that are disappearing. Click here to visit their new website.
By the way, have you tried the area search on the ASF website? CLICK here to see a sample of a zip code and a 50 mile radius.

Congratulations To Melissa Aho! ~ Sept. 19, 05 - Pete Seavey does it again. Only this time it's in 50J. 50J is one of our latest additions to the fleet. It's an excellent choice for an all around aircraft. The stats are nice also, with 180 hp and payload numbers you'll find that, for the most part, taking three passengers for a ride will fall nicely in the weight and balance graphs. This is just one of many aspects of study that Melissa is working on as she continues towards her private pilots certificate. Good Luck to Melissa and have fun flying at Ossipee Valley Aviation.... I wonder what aircraft Pete will have our next student pilot solo in? Maybe a Cessna 150?

Congratulations To Jill Kaichen! ~ Sept. 19, 05 - Congratulations to Jill Kaichen on reaching her first solo. It's nice to get your first solo, but it must be even sweeter when you make your first solo in your own plane! If you go back in the "News and Info" page you'll find some pics on Mike and Jill's Piper Warrior II that they just got last June. This was a unique model for Piper where they added the tapered wing, similar to the Cessna's, instead of the "Hershey bar" wing of the older Cherokee's. Thanks to our CFII Pete Seavey, Jill is now on her way to her private pilot certificate. Good luck to Jill on her continued studies. Ok, here's a trick question. When Mike and Jill are flying together, who's logging pilot-in-command? .... hmmmm

A New Look! ~ Sept. 18, 05 - Reach for the sky, pard-ner.Where did all the trees go? Well, from what I understand, the airport is getting a face-lift when it comes to security. All that fuss you see going on by the roadside of the airport is making way for a new security fence. Some airports take a different approach to security. Click on the red, white & black sign to find out how. I think it means "No Trespassing!"

That's Not a Skyhawk! ~ Sept. 18, 05 - Click here to enlargeAlthough the Airport Directory says the "heavy" aircraft traffic pattern altitude is 1600 it's not uncommon to see them making about a 10 nm radius from Pease at about 2000' msl. So if you go into places like Littlebrook, be sure to keep an eye out and as they say, "your head on a swivel".

They're both in Adobe PDF format so printing is no problem. Just click on the small pictures (icons) in this article to see the full printable schedules. Notice also, that when you open the schedules with pdf, anything printed with a www internet address is hyperlinked (click on it!)... only at Ossipee Valley Aviation...

LEAF PEEPING! ~ Sept. 13, 05 - Hey Fluffy! Let's go Leaf Peeping at Ossipee Valley Aviation.Go tell all your friends about it! It's going to be LEAF PEEPING time very soon! Don't have a pilot license but you'd like to take someone special for a plane ride? No problem! Check out our leaf peeping specials at the office. From what I hear, Pete Seavey has put together an impressive package for several choices of different fall foliage flights that ranges from the White Mountains to the Maine coastline. Stop in and see which one is just right for you. Or, if you already have your license you can do your own peeping from one of our seven aircraft.

IT'S Another COVER-UP! ~ Sept. 13, 05 - Only this time it's on a high wing aircraft! That's right, 43G is sporting a cover that's waiting for you to put on if you're the last flight of the day. I usually stop by in the evenings when I fly, so lately, I've been getting a lot of practice. The covers on the Cherokee's kind of plop on the top of the plane, but the Cessna one is sort of a wrap around. If you start at the windshield (windscreen), you can snap it in place and it will hold the cover while you wrap the rest around and fasten the velcro and snaps and tie's oh my!

IT'S A COVER-UP! ~ Sept. 10, 05 - Notice anything different about 11R and 50J these days? If you're driving by in the evening you're most likely to see them covered up. The note in the metal container for the aircraft log sheets says to cover-up the aircraft if you're the last flight of the day. If you're two people it goes on very easily. If you're alone, it's a little cumbersome but not difficult. Keeping our planes in tip-top shape is a high priority and blocking out the UV's from the sun goes a long way in protecting the windows and aircraft interior. So the next time you fly 50J or 11R and you're the last flight of the day, be sure to be part of our cover-up.

CONGRATULATIONS! ~ Sept. 6, 05 - Clich here to enlargeCongratulations to Jeff Everett on receiving his Piper Cherokee Archer. Jeff started taking flying lessons with Ossipee Valley Aviation last year and did his first solo in August. He received his private pilot certificate last spring and has had his eyes set on owning his own aircraft. Well, his dream has come true as he's seen here taking his plane up for a ride. Some pilots move on to earn a career in flying and some stay with their private pilot license and buy their own aircraft, and for others we have a choice of several high and low wing aircraft to rent for your flying pleasure. Good luck to Jeff with his newly acquired flying machine!

CONGRATULATIONS! ~ Sept. 2, 05 - Congratulations to Richard Keneally on his first solo. You might notice that Richard has soloed in a 150. Although we don't have a Cessna 150 currently in the line-up that doesn't mean you can use your own aircraft. The Cessna 150 has traditionally been a primary trainer at many flight schools because of its ease of handling and economy. It is limited to two people and baggage (maybe). But that's ok! When you need to take some of your friends for a ride you can check out our 4 place Skyhawks and Cherokee's. The useful load in our 180 is close to 1000 lbs. Once you get your private pilot certificate you then qualify for a check ride to put that Cherokee to work. Stop in and check out the specs for yourself. Good luck to Richard as he continues towards his private pilot license.

Rudder With Some Attitude! ~ Sept. 2, 05 -  Have you taken a good look at 43G lately? Well, the tail section has taken on a new appearance. Click on the 43g icon to check it out! Glen tells me that it's the new Ossipee Valley Aviation logo. What do you think? I think it's pretty sharp looking and put's a special touch to the aircraft. Who knows, maybe you'll pick up a few knots from the skin affect redirecting the airflow around the vertical stabilizer through the Coanda Effect. (Believe that?... ok, but it does look nice!)

Over 400 Skyhaven Airshow Pictures have been posted! ~ Aug 28, 05 - The staff at Ossipee Valley Aviation wants to thank everyone for attending this years airshow. The performers were great and the crowds were as the article in the Fosters said, ""We think of it as a party with 30,000 of our friends," Arsenault said. During practice runs and media day on Friday, spectators lined the side of Rochester Hill Road with their necks craned to the sky, gasping at the feats of the air show's pilots and performers." Our picture pages cover the complete weekend, including some pics from the Air Safety Seminar on Thursday. Friday's pics shows candid shots of the airshow acts, pilot interviews and planning. Although Saturday did not have the aerobatic performers in the air, the Rochester Radio Controlled Models demonstrated fantastic aerobatic skills. Sunday had a foggy start but cleared up to be a great day with unbelievable performances by Rob Holland, Carol Pilon's wing walking, and many others. CLICK HERE TO ENLARGE WITH ADOBE PDFFAA Safety Seminars Web Site gets update! ~ Aug 27, 05 - CLICK HERE TO VISIT THE FAA ASP WEB SITE!Well, the link to the ASP has changed. Instead of a calendar, they now have a search feature. It's a little tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it works pretty good. In the meantime, we'll continue to report any seminars that show up at Skyhaven (Ossipee Valley Aviation), or at a nearby airport or location. There's a Safety Seminar coming up in Portsmouth at the Marriott. In one of the line items in the seminar it mentions, "The one time when you could be carrying too much fuel." ( I assume they mean you would still be withing the W&B specs...)

SKYHAVEN AIRSHOW 05 Pictures are on the web! ~ Aug 22, 05 - Well, almost. I've begun uploading the pictures I took of the airshow this past weekend. There's over 300 so it might take a few days to get them all up. In the meantime, I've uploaded the "thumbnail" pictures to give you an peek of what's coming. The full size pictures will be up shortly. CLICK HERE to for a peek & preview.

SKYHAVEN AIRSHOW 05 NEWS! ~  Aug 20, 05 - Here's a peek of some pictures of the press gathering on Friday. Most of the performers were there and did some demo'ing of their airshow skill before the press. Needless to say, we had some minor traffic disturbences when the aircraft took to the sky. Rob Holland, Third Strike and some of the others have been caught here by my camera's lense as they prepare for this weekends events. Above is Sarah and here helpers working on some signs that will help the crowds find their way around. CLICK HERE TO SEE SOME OF THE PRE-SHOW PERFORMANCES.

THIRD STRIKE STEARMAN NEWS! ~  Aug 18, 05 - This pic was recently taken from the OVA hanger. It's the Third Strike Wing Walking Stearman and the pilot for this aircraft will be Rob Holland. That's a pretty good combination Rob. Beautiful aircraft and beautiful women riding on the wings of your aircraft.

CAP Shows New C-182 At Skyhaven Airshow 05 ~ Aug 18, 05 - A Recent email from Mary Ann Crocker said that the NH Wing Civil Air Patrol will be bringing the new 2005 TAA  C-182 that the Air Force just gave us in May to the show on Saturday and Sunday to be put on display. Visit their website to see their pics from last years airshow and this beautiful aircraft - click HERE TO VISIT THEIR WEBSITE and see the Skylane

New Aircraft on the ramp! ~  Aug 15, 05 - Well, not new as in new aircraft but as in new in the line-up. It's actually a replacement of 80J. We now have 50J and there's not much difference between the two aircraft. Be sure to visit our "Aircraft Picture Page" to get a close-up of this beautifully maintained aircraft.

Congratulations! ~  Aug 15, 05 - Congratulations to Jamie Wixson on receiving his Private Pilot Certificate.  Flying in New England gives a pilot a variety of skills and experiences. 95 degrees to 10 below zero, wind and snow covered runways. And now, Jamie can finally take family and friends up in the air and share the joy of flying. Where will his next cross country flight take him? The sky's the limit!

Flying a C-150 in El Paso Texas ~ CLICK HERE TO SEE AERIAL PICTURES FROM A C-150 FLYING IN EL PASOAug 14, 05 - On a recent business trip to El Paso Texas, it occurred to me that as a private pilot there's no reason why I can't rent an airplane at one of the local airports and check out the local scenery. Once you get your private pilot certificate at Ossipee Valley Aviation you now have the skills to fly and navigate anywhere! Keeping this in mind, I threw my logbook in my briefcase. As it turned out, I met some great folks at the "Horizon Airport" in El Paso Texas and got a chance to fly a C-150 from an airport at 4000 feet with a 6400 foot runway. At nearly 100 degrees that makes for an interesting density altitude. Click on the pic to get the whole story.

Congratulations! ~  Aug 12, 05 - Congratulations to Lynn Lentz on receiving her private pilot certificate! Lynn is a familiar face around the airport and her passion for flying is share by all the pilots around the airport. It can be very challenging along the way satisfying all the study requirements and all the required flight maneuvers, but the reward is well worth it. Now Lynn can take her friends and family for a ride in one of our aircraft. Be sure to check out our "aircraft Picture" page for more info about the aircraft that Lynn has been flying. Good luck to Lynn as she ventures into the world of general aviation. Click here to find the aircraft that Lynn soloed in.

Congratulations! ~  July 28, 05 - Click here to enlargeCongratulations to Eric Ely on making his first solo flight. CFII Pete Seavey must of been awed in amazement when he filled out Eric's shirt. Not to worry, we'll take a guess at the date of this great event. Actually, my inside sources inform me that he soloed somewhere around the same time as Wendy Harmon and John Loop. How about July 11? Close enough for now. Good luck to Eric as he continues working (and studying) towards his private pilot license.

AVIATION SAFETY SEMINAR AT OSSIPEE VALLEY AVIATION! ~Click here to go to NE FAA Safety Seminar CalendarJuly 27, 05 - Have you seen the latest aviation safety seminar schedule yet? Well be sure to mark you calendar on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to be held right here at Ossipee Valley Aviation, Skyhaven Airport, Rochester, NH. The title is POST-ACCIDENT SURVIVAL. This seminar will be presented by Aviation Safety Counselor Dan Heeter and will focus on how to prepare and use a personal survival kit. For more information click on the ASP icon.

Check This Out! ~ July 27, 05 - You never know what you'll see when you take a flight somewhere, even if it's just at a nearby airport. So I land at Littlebrook Airport the other day (with 80J) and as I was back taxiing to 30 I happen to see this amphib sitting on the ramp. As I got closer, I gave it a double take! Wow! What a machine! I wanted to stop and touch the paint but it was probably best I didn't. Just in case you were wondering, it's a brand new 2005 Cessna 206 on amphibious floats. I bet those floats alone cost more that I paid for my 1966 Skyhawk. And then it was time to go home, and the 180 hp engine on 80J roared to life and I was gone...
