Chips Skyhawk! ~ July 23, 05 - You read a few articles ago that Theiler Walker and Pete Seavey were on their way to Oshkosh and they're going in Chips Johnson Skyhawk. Chips not only a CFI but also has his A & E. That must be pretty handy when you own your own skyhawk. But like so many aircraft around Skyhaven, this is not an ordinary Skyhawk. If you look carefully under the cowling near the nose gear you'll se a custom exhaust pipe. If I understand Chip correctly, this is a tuned exhaust system that increases the hp to 160. It reminds me when I got a glasspack for my '57 Chevy.

Congratulations! ~  July 21, 05 - Congratulations to Wendy Harmon on making her first solo. Thanks to CFII Pete Seavey another student joins the ranks of a long like of 93G students. Congratulation also to John Loop! John is also on the 93G list. If you're thinking of taking some flying lessons and wonder what it's like up there, just browse around this website and you see all kinds of pictures taken from the very cockpit the students are flying from. Or better yet, stop by or give us a call for our introductory flight. Good Luck to Wendy and John as they pursue their private pilot license.

Congratulations! ~  July 20, 05 - Congratulations to Theiler Walker and Mike Tabler on receiving their private pilot certificate. Theiler tells me he's already begun moving on towards his instrument rating. Sounds like he came up with an ingenious way to build up his instrument time  on his log book by flying to Oshkosh for the airshow. I forgot to tell him to send us some pictures of their adventure. Our CFII Pete Seavey will be joining Theiler for the journey. Good luck to Theiler and Mike on their accomplishment, and if Theiler sends us some pictures I'll put them up on the this site. Shortly, I'll be posting some pictures of the Skyhawk that Theiler will be flying.

SKYHAVEN AIRSHOW 05 NEWS UPDATE! ~  July 12, 05 - Click here to visit the Air Combat Command websiteHere's a message from Mike McMahon:
"Gentlemen,
I have received a message from the Air Combat Center (and I quote):
"Mr. McMahon,
Air Combat Command has confirmed an A-10 Thunderbolt II demonstration at your air show.  The A-10 East Demonstration Team is currently tasked to support you."
As you can see, it really appears that we have the A-10 demo team. Again, this is HUGE! "
That's right! An A-10 Air Combat Command demo team will be making an appearance at the airshow. Needless to say, Mike's pretty excited and the airshow staff is also. We have an incredible line-up of all types of aircraft for this years show. So be sure to mark you calendar, you don't want to miss it! Click on the A-10 icon to visit their site. Be sure to visit our Airshow 05 web page for information about the airshow. Note: In the past we've had articles about the A-10 "Warthog". Click here to see incredible pictures of this heavily arm fighting machine.

Congratulations! ~  July 12, 05 - Click here to enlarge Yes, another solo in 43G. Congratulations to Russ Abbott on his first solo flight in 43Golf. This Cessna Skyhawk has what it takes to give our students the very best in general aviation! It has GPS with a moving map display, autopilot and many of the high tech features used in commercial transport aircraft. Want to go to a particular destination that's not on the charts? No problem, just punch in the geographical coordinates and with a few key strokes you can not only obtain the data and headings of your destination but you can then command the aircraft to take you there. When you click OK on your computer screen the scenery on your computer screen changes. When you press the OK button on the GPS system on 43G the scenery also changes, not only on the screen but also out the window. So, the next time you go by the airport and you see a white aircraft taking off, it just might be Russ Abbott building time for his private pilot certificate. Good Luck to Russ as he continues his studies.

SKYHAVEN AIRSHOW 05! ~  July 07, 05 -   Hey! Did you see the bill board in front of the airport? Be sure to keep checking the Skyhaven Airshow 05 webpage for the latest breaking news on performances and displays. Coming up soon, I'll be posting a preliminary list of schedule of events.

Congratulations! ~  July 07, 05 - Click here to enlargeCongratulations to Eric Bisson on his first solo in 43Golf. The options are widening here at Ossipee Valley Aviation. Our 2001 Skyhawk full IFRWhether it's a low wing aircraft or a high wing aircraft like the Cessna Skyhawk that Eric soloed in we can provide an aircraft that will fit the bill. Be sure to click on the Skyhawk at the right to find out what this aircraft is all about. Good luck to Eric as he continues with his training towards the private pilot certificate.

Romeo & Juliett ~ June 28, 05  - I live in a Cherokee 180. Come and take me for a ride! How can I make up my mind? Which one do you prefer? Romeo or Juliett? Now don't get me wrong, Romeo is a lot of fun, but I must admit, there's something special about Juliett. But, some things are best experienced than described. So, if you really want to know the difference between Romeo & Juliett you should come down to Ossipee Valley Aviation and discover how much fun both of them are. Once you get to know Romeo, make the transition to Juliett and you might find yourself coming back for more. Be sure to check them out on our "aircraft picture" page... that's November4511Romeo and November6480Juliett.

MULTI-ENGINE RATING ~1966 Piper Aztec C Full IFR with de-iceJune 22, 05 - Thinking about getting a multi-engine rating? Well, to help you make up your mind, our cfi Kevin DeTrude is working on a special program tailored just for you! He's still working on the details, but I understand that the focus is on utilizing some of the technology on our simulator that will allow you to get some of the requirements without the cost of actual multi-engine flight. This means a big savings where you can achieve the most from your learning experience and maximize your flying time in our classic twin, the Piper Aztec. Whether you're trying to achieve a personal flying goal or working towards a career in aviation, this program that Kevin is putting together might be the plan you've been looking for. Give Kevin a call at 603-332-0005 or send him an email at:  kevin@ossipeeaviation.com.

Another Cherokee Story! ~June 13, 05 - Don't get this Cherokee mixed up with Bernie's Cherokee. This Cherokee is the big brother to the 140, it's the 180. More weight, more engine, more room. So, whether you have your fancy on a high wing Cessna, or a low wing Cherokee, we have them both. This beautifully maintained Cherokee 180 is a pleasure to fly. Also, this is an IFR aircraft so its versatility expands our fleet options to give you more choice on your flying experience. Wondering what it's like to fly a low wing aircraft? Well, stop wondering and stop by for a check ride. For rental fee click on our "Cost & Rental" page. Be sure to click on our "aircraft picture" page to see our full line of aircraft from a 1946 Talorcraft to a 2001 Cessna Skyhawk.

Congratulation! ~June 7, 05 - Congratulations to Bernie Ahearn.  Bernie just purchased a Cherokee 140, and it's down on a grass tie down. Although Bernie didn't get his license with us, he did get re-current with us a year or two ago. Glen tells me that "He's had me on quite a search for an aircraft which took us to Las Vegas once, and he didn't end up buying that aircraft." Well, it looks like all that persistence finally paid off. The next time you taxi down to 33 be sure to look in the grass tie down to check out Bernie's plane. One of these days I might catch Bernie on the ramp with the canvas off and I'll sneak a few pics of the interior... keep watching...

Congratulation! ~  June 1, 05 - Congratulations to Mike Kaichen on receiving his 1980 Piper Warrior II. Do you like flying our Cherokee 140? Well Mike liked it so much he went out and bought one. But the fever didn't stop there, and I can understand why. I caught up with Mike and his wife and Jim Dubois talking about some of the features of the Warrior. Mike's search carried him near and far looking for that right aircraft, and I think he found it. Here's a few pics of Mike's beautifully maintained aircraft.

By the way, Mike got his private pilot training here a Ossipee Valley Aviation. Check out his shirt on the private pilot solo page.

VFR At last?~  May 29, 05 - The weather in New England can be pretty stubbon when it comes to clouds and rain, but a solid cloud deck doesn't mean IFR. With a 3500 ft ceiling there's still plenty of room to take in some sites. Knowing what the weather is doing and what it's going to do is an important part of your preflight plan. Be sure to try out the quick weather links in the cloud area of this page. The "daw-pwm-sfm" link will give you a popup window with the enroute weather from Skyhaven to Portland with an alternate to Sanford. One thing I like about this link is that it gives both the FAA version and the English version.

FEAR ME! ~  May 28, 05 - When you fly a 150 these days... well I'm sure everyone has been hearing all the paranoia going on. It's obviously important to know the status of "F16 Military Patrolled AirSpace" before you take off, especially in this time of Post 911. Unfortunately, the reality is, sometimes, common sense gets overruled by panic, disorientation, and absentmindedness by both the people that violate special rules and the people that are assigned to enforce the rules. If you're older than 50 they call it a "senior moment". If you're younger, they call it a "brainfart" (pardon my French). Maybe the boy scout motto sums it up for all of us, "Be Prepared!" Not only do you need to fear a 150 but you also need to be on the lookout for any fierce animals walking (or laying) around.

SKYHAVEN AIRSHOW05 ~ May 26, 05 - More information is coming in on this years airshow events and it promises to be just as spectacular as last year with new performances displays, food and activities for the whole family! Did you see the 50 person skydive last year? Well, rumor has it, that this year they are planning a 100 person skydive! That's right! 100 skydivers coming down out of the sky at the same time. And you thought you were doing good to drive on the highway during rush hour traffic. How about a wing walker? I'll be updating the Airshow05 webpage very shortly with details about this years upcoming events. Mark your calendar, August 20 and 21!

PUT A TIGER IN YOUR TANK~  May 26, 05 - There's a lot of FAA rules that need to be complied with but it doesn't mean you can't get creative with a paint scheme. Just stop by the airport on any sunny day, or for that matter, even on a cloudy day, and you just might see the darndest thing. This aircraft looks like it means business! What was that gasoline add a number of years ago? Put a tiger in your tank? How about a leopard?

Click here to go to NE FAA Safety Seminar Calendar~  May 26, 05 - The June safety brief schedule is out and the closest seminar for the month of June is in Portland and Manchester. The one in Manchester is titled "AVOIDING THUNDERSTORMS AND AIR TRAFFIC THROUGH AUTOMATION"  that focuses on cockpit automation. The one in Portland is title, "AIRWORTHINESS FOR PILOTS", and talks about aircraft worthiness. Click on the safety program icon for more details.

Congratulations! ~  May 15, 05 - Congratulations to Jeff Everett on receiving his private pilot license! Flying in today's skies is not quite as carefree as it use to be years ago but when you know and understand the rules and regulations it can be just a fun. Jeff can now take his family and friends and give them a different view of the places they live and visit. Good luck to Jeff as he enjoys his new license! Be sure to check out Jeff's solo shirt posting on the student pilot solo page.

Dark Cloud  ~  May 15, 05 - You never know what you'll find when you go for a ride in one of our airplanes. At 2000 feet you might see anything from an unusual dark cloud, or a few Canadian geese, or a seagull. (What's a seagull doing at 2000 feet?) I turned final for 30 at Littlebrook one day and saw what appeared to be a hawk circling around the final approach end. So, when you go for a ride with one of our new pilots be sure to bring your camera with you to capture that special moment.

Congratulations! ~  May 12, 05 - Congratulations to Julie Bruce on receiving her instrument rating! Cloudy day, overcast & rain? No problem for Julie. Now that she has her instrument rating, she can be on the ground on a cloudy day at one moment, and a few minutes later she can be on top of the clouds with a bright blue sky and the sun shining. Maybe it will be sunny at her destination and maybe it won't. It won't matter, because her flight plan with say "IFR". Good luck to Julie as she pursues her goals in aviation! In the picture, Julie is flanked by Tony (on her right) and Jon. {Anybody for some popcorn?}

"JETFIGHTER JOSH"  ~Click here to enlarge with pdf (It's printable)May 12, 05 - Congratulation to Josh Howard on making his first solo flight in 43G. Check out the place were Josh has been working to accomplish this feat! Josh has had the opportunity to work with Kevin DeTrude and take advantage of the GPS system in 43G which also has a moving map display that show you where the aircraft is at all times. You can even punch in geographic coordinates, press a button and command the aircraft to go there. Good luck to Josh as he continues his work towards his private pilot license.

ANOTHER AIRCRAFT!  ~May 7, 05 - My inside sources tell me that there could be another aircraft sitting on the ramp in the not to distant future. Could it be a Cessna 150? Glen and his crew here at OVA have been known to bring parts and metal into the hanger and then later wheel out an aircraft that rivals a factory showroom display. What kind of magic will they do to this panel? Keep watching for news and updates.

Where 's That page?  ~  May 7, 05 - Looking for a page that you've seen in the past but can't find it? As the site grows, indexing the old pages becomes more critical so I'll be adding an index of past pages and events to the "other links" page. Do you have a cool picture you'd like to see featured on this website? It's easy! Just click on the "SEND PICTURE" option. Keep watching for more exciting news and informatioin!

Click here to go to NE FAA Safety Seminar Calendar~  May 7, 05 - Have you seen the MAY schedule yet? In addition to the May 18th meeting at the Marriott in Portsmouth, as I reported a few weeks ago (April 23), there's also a meeting in Sanford at Presidential Aviation titled, "FLYING HELICOPTERS AT NON-TOWERED AIRPORTS." Click on the Aviation Safety Program icon for more information.

Congratulations! ~  May 2, 05 - Congratulations to Ed Patenaude who passed his Private check ride last week! All those people that Ed has promised to take for a ride can now stand in line (just kidding). Actually Ed can now take as many people for a ride as he wants, or should I say, he can take as many as the weight and balance calculations says he can. Unlike a car, you can't take as many people as you can squeeze in the cockpit. But that's what Ed has been learning about and I'm sure since he soloed in 93G, he's ready to put his new knowledge to work. Good luck to Ed with his private pilot license! (Check out Ed's shirt on the student pilot solo page!)

Welcome Aboard!  ~  May 2, 05 - Welcome aboard to John Riebau. Stop in and say hi to John usually between Sunday and Wednesday. John's an experienced commercial/instrument pilot and brings his knowledge and experience to Ossipee Valley Aviation to compliment our staff. John also has experience with a Cessna 185 on amphibious floats flying in the wild woods of Alaska. Sounds like John might have some interesting flying stories. Good luck to John, and welcome aboard!

4th Annual Open House  ~May 1st, 05 -Did you hear about our 4th Annual Open House? A get together with family and friends at the hanger joined by distinguished guest from the community and hosted by B95.3 radio DJ Kenny Tibbetts. We also had Rob Holland with his aircraft from Aerial Advantage, a Pitts Special and a Decathlon aerobatics aircraft. There was a brand new Skylane with a glass cockpit sitting in front of the hanger. Sitting in the pilots seat of a glass cockpit is something that takes a little getting used to, but I'd be willing to put up with it. Be sure to click on the "Welcome" icon in this article to view some pictures of this great event.

ON LINE PAMPHLET  ~April 26, 05 -Have you seen our pamphlet that's usually on the counter? No problem if you haven't, we just happen to have one right here on line and it's in the pdf format which means it's easy to print. Just click on the  the "online pamphlet" menu or on the pamphlet icon in this article and check it out! It's just been updated so you should have the latest and the greatest right here!

Click here to go to NE FAA Safety Seminar Calendar~  April 23, 05 - 22.jpgHere's another preview of an upcoming Safety Seminar that's going to be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2005, in Portsmouth at the the Marriott in the Seacoast Ballroom, on 1000 Market Street, Building 3. The seminar is an AOPA sponsored program called "Weather Wise". The seminar will be devoted to practical weather flying for GA pilots. I included a picture taken from 11R of a low cloud deck taken at 2000 ft looking toward the coast line (which is under the white stuff in this picture). The seminar is from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
