TIPS FOR FLYING IN THE TFR

We have all the necesary information available. Here's a little plain language summary on how to fly when the TFR is in effect:
  • Always check NOTAMs prior to flying.
  • If the TFR is in effect (assuming the same procedures are used when it was last activated in October 2002), it is easy to comply with the procedures and stay out of trouble.
  • If departing an airport within the TFR, call flight service and file an IFR or VFR flight plan.  Flight service will get you a discrete beacon/squawk code! and frequency.
  • Squawk the assigned code before getting airborne.
  • Contact ATC as soon as possible after takeoff.
  • Leave the area on a heading directly away from the Kennebunk VOR.
  • If flying from outside the TFR to a destination inside the TFR, ensure you are in contact with ATC, on a discrete beacon code, and on an active IFR or VFR flight plan.
No training or practice approaches were allowed within the TFR when it was last activated in October."
