To day was move
day. We flew from Yolo County Airport (Davis,CA) up to Sonoma County Airport
(Santa Rosa, CA - aka Charles Shultz Airport...yes...Charlie Brown and
Snoopy). Was windy as anything but we did manage to get a close look at
Travis AFB...but we did not get the fly over. Oh well, we had it in sight,
but there was a heavy KC-10 in the pattern and we would have messed things
up a bit. Not too much for pictures today...the first one is the B-24 after
we landed and the other three are of another B-25 "Sunday Punch" that is
owned by the owner of the FBO (Fixed Base Operator). I did manage
to get one complete flight in...take off thru landing. The Pilot in Command
is always "yelling" at me to keep the center line and if I don't, I have
to buy him a beer...I think I may need a new liver when I get back...

@% ^ stuck in Santa Rosa, CA. we have an exhaust issue with the B-24
and need to repair it before we fly again. If all goes well, we should
be leaving tomorrow around 4:00pm
More re-enactors today.
This was pretty good with a person dressed in uniform and a nice restored
"jeep"...story of the Jeep: the name was derived from the letters GP, which
stood for "General Purpose" vehicle. The troops simple shortened G.P. to
"Jeep".
As you can also see...someone
my "ahem" size has a tough time fitting into it. No more beer when I get
home...yeah right. Flying out of Santa Rosa (KSTS) is beautiful. Major
league wine country
and a couple of the shots
show the nice wineries in the area. The haze masked San Francisco in a
couple of the shots...but we could see it when we approached the bay. I
was lucky enough to fly the B-25 for four flights yesterday and today.
I did three of the landings. The B-25 feels like a little Cessna after
flying the B-24. Oh well...signing of...
Stuck in Santa Rosa...tomorrow
Concord (no, not in NH). |

Co nc or d,
C A. ..that's where. At least for now.
We managed to fix the exhaust
on the B-24. A very trying day for the mechanic as the engine fought him
every step of the way. There was nothing easy to the fix and I have never
seen anyone so exasperated over something. In the end, he got if fixed
and then we did manage to put a
very cute 25 year old King
Air pilot on the flight with us. She was very cute and "Gator" (Jeremy)
was found it nice enough to be tour guide during the flight. As he stated..."it
was very therapeutic"...
We flew from Santa Rosa
to Concord without incident. As soon as we got there we had two flights
scheduled and first flight we flew eastward...which though very nice and
there was a regatta
happening...was not nearly
as cool as the second flight...the golden gate bridge and over flying Alcatraz!
Sorry for the fuzzy pictures of the golden gate and downtown san Francisco...but
its is hard to be a photographer AND a B-24 pilot at the same time.
As you can see the from
the last two flights, we had quite the turn out for this stop...there were
a ton of people who came out to look at the airplanes and enjoy the 100+
degree heat on the tarmac.
We flew three times today
and the last flight was my take off and landing...worse one yet...I swear
I put dents in the end of the runway...and it cost me a lot of beer money.
Tomorrow we take off for
Arcata, CA...nice long flight and it will be up the coastline of California. |
