Mike McMahon And The Collings WWII Aircraft
Mt Hood is the mountain that still has its top on it. Mt St.
Helens....is the flatter one. Other pictures are flying up the coastline
into Oregon. The funky looking airplane is....ha ha...not going to tell
you until you guess...
Believe it or not this was at one time owned by the queen of
England. The engines in it are Gypsy engines and there is only throttle
controls...no prop controls.
Beer for the first person who guesses correctly.

Final message...as I am back in the office

I am including only a couple of pictures...we flew from Arcata, CA to
Salem, OR and into Hillsboro, OR (just outside Portland).

The scenery was majestic and beyond words. The coastline of California
was incredible and the flight was even more amazing. After takeoff, the
pilot wanted to eat lunch as he (and so was I) was hungry. He decided to
get out of his seat and let me have the airplane.

After the pilot ate, it was my turn and I took the opportunity to let
one of our volunteers to fly in my seat while I ran back and took some
pictures. This is where I took the shot of the California
coastline....amazing.

It was also my first flight where we had to fly IFR (on instruments) in
a bomber. Pretty cool experience for me.

Salem, OR was a lot of fun. I managed to hop on and fly the B-25 again
(feels like flying a Cessna after flying the B-24) and got another
landing in.

On my last day with the collings foundation, we flew into Hillsboro. The
local flight that night put us close to Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens. The
picture included is of Mt. St. Helens.
I can only imagine the awesome power of Mother Nature as this mountain
exploded.

Anyway...vacation was beyond words and beyond expectations. I flew every
day at least once and most of the time two or three times a day. I
managed to fly every airplane there and log time in all of them.
